The collection consists of a letter from Camilla Cash to her father, Isaac Jarratt of Huntsville, Surry County, North Carolina, and dated 9 February 1847. The letter describes the plight of a very homesick young lade at St. Mary's girls school in Raleigh.

Camilla Cash was the daughter of Isaac Jarratt of Huntsville, Surry County, North Carolina. In 1842 May 12, the Rev. Aldert Smedes, an Episcopal priest, opens the doors of Saint Mary's School on the site of the North Carolina Episcopal School for Boys, which existed from 1834-1838.
